We've been here three times now. It's a downstairs bar on a side street just past Jonggak belfry. It's an easy place to find because the outside is like an explosion of wood, in a cirlce around the door. Also, the restaurant opposite blows bubbles into the street, so if you feel a bubble popping on you, you know you're nearby!
Things that I really like about The Table: it has a nice chilled out feel. There are a selection of low, Korean style tables and high Western ones, as well as chairs all around the bar which is in the centre of the room. I wonder if that's how they got the name "The Table?" Hm.....
I like the decor, there are exposed bricks and interesting objects around, like an old school cart on the bar, and little nooks and crannies with joss sticks in. The other great thing is that it's a brewpub and they sell their own ales. Also, a Bud is the same price as a bottle of Cafri and a pint is the same price as them too. 5,000 won is ok for those. Oh, another thing is the excellent heated toilets that are pretty too. And they have board games, which is a sign of a good place if you ask me!
Bad points: the anju. This is only because I am a westerner, but toast with sugar and herbs on? Hm. And we once had chicken wings where the salad came with sugar on as well. But I suppose we're just not used to it.......The other gripe is the most serious, every time I've been in and tried to order one of their beers it's not been on. They serve 2 dunkels, a pilsner and honey brown ale. It's a shame they don't have all of them on all of the time. I plumped for Cafri. They also have a large selection of cocktails which are OK priced.
The music is eclectic. I really enjoyed hearing Hot Chip out and the music verges between James Blunty stuff to more banging beats with no real thought as to the order, but on the whole the music kind of suits the place.
The style of the bar is cool and it's a relaxing place to go for a beer. The atmosphere is good, with a mixture of folk drinking after work and students and the odd whitey. The bar staff are trendy, black glasses and denim. The service isn't as great as in other places we've been to, but they do the job.
My major gripe from my last visit is that where we sat was comfy and all, but there was an resounding smell of poo around. We thought we might be under the toilets of whatever establishment was above us. But whatever the reason, it really killed the mood. Something they shuold sort out, as should they having all the beers on the menu.
So yeh, a bit hit and miss. This place should have probably scored higher!
