Now I feel bad about giving the Adelphi a so-so review. If we had just gone for a drink it would be a brilliant review, and as the food element is only 10 marks out of 50 it should not bring it down too much. And it's not that the food is bad, it is just average. A little bit disappointing.
The pub itself is lovely. It has the original lay-out and fixtures. Lots of rooms all decorated differently with big print wallpaper and comfy seating. Fantastic mix of new and old. Good booze selection. Different beers and ciders, lots to choose from. Nice and friendly staff, they have a big room for hire upstairs, cool little beer yard out the back.
But to the food. It was better than last time we went. They were out of roast by the time we got there so I was a bit disappointed, but it was late, so fair enough. I had steak and ale pie with mash and roast veg. Jay had chilli with rice. And as I said, it wasn't bad at all but the puff pastry on the pie was a bit over-cooked, they were obviously running out of roast veg as I got a tiny, tiny portion and the pie was a bit stingily filled. Gravy in the pie and mash were tasty though. Jay's chilli had cubes of beef rather than mince which made a change and it was OK. Had a nice fried tortilla. We also shared a sticky toffee pudding and that was good.
So it is a lovely pub. Ace Ace Ace. But the food is slightly uninspiring.
