Wowsa, this place was a right random find and a great suprise.
I can't quite remember where it is, but if you walk down from exit 6 of Myeongdong train station past Migliore you turn left about 3 blocks down. It's down a side street on the right on the first floor (or second floor if you're english).
I really loved the place straight away. It has pine coloured seats and a nice open-plan feel. It has bright panels and a quirky feel. We sat in the window so we could watch people shopping below.
The menu was really simple. A choice of around 10 set meals for 6,000 won at dinner or 4,000 won at lunch. It turned out to be amazing value. I plumped for the fried fish. With it came 3 or 4 banchan, beansprout spicy soup, broiled egg, rice and kimchi. It was served on individual wooden trays, a bit like a Japanese bento. I've not experienced this yet, so that was interesting and a nice touch. Drinks wise, there wasn't anything on the menu so we had water, but I saw evidence of a coffee machine. Not sure about what else they served. The food was great. There wasn't a huge amount but enough to fill you up. The beansprout soup was suprisingly tasty. The fish was nice, but quite small so it was hard to pick the bones out. For the price you really couldn't complain.
The service was excellent. They were prompt, with food turning up very quickly. We asked for the name of the place so that I could review it and the staff were happy to help. I also got VERY excited at seeing a real life Bubble Bobble arcade machine on the counter which seemed to make them smile.
The decor was just brilliant. The arcade machine made it for me, but there were several rooms too which we didn't go into. I would definitely come back to explore them in future. Also, the lighting was really cool. They had lampshades like I had when I was a little girl. They are paper ones in the shape of hot air balloons, complete with little baskets underneath. I loved the genereal cutesty feel of the place. Aw!
So yes, to sum up, a lovely little place with a really nice atmosphere, cool staff, young and happening clientel and a cheap menu (that's in English). Why don't you go there??
