First things first:
we are here today to drink beer, obviously. But it's a special day to drink beer today because it's the 'Fermentation Celebration'. This is an event where craft brewers have got together from around Seoul and brought their homebrews to the masses. Crafworks itself is a brewpub too, so it's great to try the beers from around the area.
The idea is to pay in and then you get a card which will take acertain number of stamps. We bypassed that because we arrived 4 hours in when everyone partaking was steamers so we got to just wonder round and try beer for free! Hurrah!
I started off with some homemade Makgeolli (막걸리). it's Korean rice wine and totally delish. I really enjoyed it. it is 8 per cent though so probably not the best starter at that time in the afternoon.
After that, we had a succession of local brews, some stouts and american ales. It was all over by 5pm but we stuck around and tried a pint of Namsan ale each. It was pretty inoffensive, but definitely a welcome drink after the local lagers we've been on. And the price was only 5,000 won, which is roughly 2 pounds 50.
The music may have been on but the place was so crowded that you'd never know it! In fact, it was so crowded when we arrived that we had to kind of slot into a corner and stay as still as possible. However, as people went, it became better and we got to actually check the place out.
There is a big room tht's quite basic, but it's new and has a nice light and open feel. The bar is near the door and I think there is an outside area but I'm not 100%. It still wasn't quiet enough for us to look at everything.
The generosity and enthusiasm of the local brewers was really fantastic, and it was nice to feel a part of such a community.
In future, we will definintely go back to Craftworks and to future events that they put on.
